This semester I am taking serigraphy for the first time. I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this new medium. The first two prints above are just a couple from our first assignment, where we just experimented and learned how the whole process worked. Following this first assignment, we were taught edition printing, reduction printing, and CMYK printing. As frustrated as I became during the reduction process, I think that is my favorite way to screen print. I also did the CMYK prints for my final two prints. I am still in awe of how this method works, because it looks exactly like a photo. I will be taking the intermediate course in the fall, and I am excited to continue working in this medium and hopefully will try something new.
After we were taught edition and reduction printing, our assignment was to go back and redo one of those prints to better it or improve upon it. I chose my reduction print, because I really liked my first one, but wanted to adjust my colors to obtain a more realistic sunset impression. I am very happy with how my second one came out. Both of these were done with 12 copies of each. The grid below shows a little of the color-by-color process that is done with reduction. The final image in the grid shows my old print next to the new print.
